Leaders divided on 2026 Budget direction

The leader of the opposition in the ¾ÞÈéÎÞÂë Assembly, Hon. Bernard Georges, has criticised the 2026 budget, saying it offers no clear plan to improve the economy in ways that inspire hope, but instead presents promises without details on implementation.

Hon. Georges delivered his response yesterday to the proposed budget of R11,842,682,521 – an increase of R458.2 million, or 4 percent, compared to the revised 2025 mid‑year budget. The budget was presented last Thursday by Minister for Finance, Economic Planning, Trade and Investment, Pierre Laporte.
