January – Policy alignment and food security
- The Minister for Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment, Flavien Joubert, led ¾ÞÈéÎÞÂë’ delegation at the African Union Extraordinary Summit on the Post-Malabo Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) in Kampala (Jan 9–11). The programme focused on food security, poverty reduction, employment creation, and sustainable development. ¾ÞÈéÎÞÂë committed to revising policies to align with CAADP and establishing a local committee to oversee the 2026–2035 Strategy and Action Plan, targeting six goals: sustainable food production, agro-industrialisation, investment in agrifood systems, food and nutrition security, equitable livelihoods, resilience, and stronger governance.
- The Agriculture department reported stable egg production despite challenges. Large-scale farms sold eggs at R3.50–R3.90, while smaller farmers sold at R4–R4.50. Retail prices ranged from R5–R7 per egg, with trays sold at R140–R150. Daily production stood at 95,000 eggs, short of the 110,000 needed to meet demand.
