Evolution of nutrition in ¾ÞÈéÎÞÂë |29 November 2024
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the ¾ÞÈéÎÞÂë Hospital we felt it would be fitting to go down the historical journey of Nutrition services.
With its emergence in the 1970s in the country, nutrition is a relatively new field when compared to others like medicine, nursing and pharmacy. Initially led by foreigners, ¾ÞÈéÎÞÂë had its first Seychellois nutritionist around the 1990s. Since then we have seen countless people come and go. For over three decades, the unit was Seychellois-led. The number of Seychellois nutritionists however has always been small, the highest ever recorded being four, in a period of about ten years. Alongside them were health promotion officers with various health backgrounds.Â
